Understand the results before you use them.
Why don't I get the same backtest results in TradingView?
StrategyCompare independently implements strategy rules and tests them on its own market data. It does not copy the TradingView Strategy Tester report. Differences can come from data vendors, futures rolls or stock adjustments, trading sessions, bar timestamps, indicator warm-up, script versions, position sizing, fees, slippage and order-fill assumptions.
First match the strategy version, symbol, timeframe, dates, capital and costs. Then inspect the first trade that differs. Matching a strategy name alone does not establish equivalent tests, and a discrepancy may also indicate an implementation issue that needs investigation.
TradingView explains its broker emulator and strategy execution model. Our Methodology explains the assumptions used here.
What happens when I choose an end date?
Pro users can request an end date within the published data range on an individual backtest or a new portfolio. The calculation uses verified source data and the strategy's end-of-test treatment of open positions. It does not simply hide later rows. Blank means the latest published result; it does not mean live prices. If the historical source cannot be verified, the site reports an error rather than substituting an unverified result.
Does saving a favourite freeze its result?
No. A favourite keeps the strategy setting so you can find its published result again. The retired saved-result comparison is no longer shown. For a historical cutoff, use an explicit end date. Saved portfolios retain their calculated report until recalculated.
Does a high return mean a strategy is suitable for me?
No. Inspect drawdown, costs, trade count and performance across different market conditions. Fewer than 30 trades is a weak sample. Selecting the best of many backtests creates selection bias; use an untouched observation period and paper practice before making live decisions.
Does StrategyCompare place trades or include TradingView membership?
No. StrategyCompare is a research tool. TradingView accounts, market-data subscriptions, alerts and brokerage services are separate. Historical simulations are not realised returns.
How do I report a result that looks wrong?
Record the page link, strategy, market, timeframe, start and end dates, and the first differing trade. Include a screenshot of settings without account numbers, passwords or API keys. See Support for the available contact route.
